Abbott - The first of the name on L. I. was probably James I., who was b. in Somersetshire, England, about 1660, and came to Newtown about 1690.  He m. Martha    --------, and had: James2, who lived at Foster's Meadow, near Hempstead; Isaac2 and Benjamin2, both of whom removed to N. J.; Daniel2; William2; Elizabeth2, m. Thomas Whitson, Jr.; and one other dau. Daniel2 was b. about 1705-10.  Tradition states that he removed to Conn about 1730, where he m. and had a family.  Rev Benjamin3 (1732-1796) son of Benjamin2 was a celebrated Methodist preacher on L. I. and in N. J."  - The Refugees of 1776 from Long Island to Connecticut
